This page outlines the various positions held within the Law Society Committee. This includes brief descriptions of the each role, as well as what tasks and jobs are expected of a successful candidate elected into a position on the committee. The content on this page is not absolute, just hoping to portray what your committee members do individually, and what newly elected members should be doing.
Description: The main role of the Law Society President is to manage, run and lead the society. The role entails the management of all aspects of the society, such as the Competitions, Pro Bono, Socials and any other business of the society (such as the sale and distribution of hoodies). Also, the President has the responsible of liaising with the Student Union, as the Law Society is a subsidiary of the Union itself.
Summary of Tasks:
Description: The Vice President has the main task of aiding the President in his/her duties in the running and managing of the society as a whole. The VP can assist in all aspects of the society, with not being restricted to a specific task, such as Negotiation or the Prison Scheme, providing a flexible arm of assistance within the committee.

Description: The Treasurer is responsible for managing the finances of the Law Society. All membership fees, and other income such as from the sale of hoodies or Ball tickets, are collected by the Treasurer and deposited in the Hull Student Union accounts. All refunds, expenses and withdrawals concerning the Law Society account are processed by the Treasurer.

Description: The Social Secretary has the primary responsibility for organising the Law Society's social engagements, from the typical Pub Crawl to the more form Law Ball, and also a series of other events such as Quizzes, Sales, Revision get togethers; the manager of the Law Society's social calendar!

Description: An expansion of the Recreations Rep role to include responsibility for more social events and activities, such as competitive games such as laserquest. The Games Rep will need to collaborate with the Social Secretary for various social events throughout the year, providing greater coverage to the social aspects of the society.

Description: There are 3 specific Competition Reps, who are individually responsible for the Mooting, Client Interviewing and Negotiation competitions. The roles involves the organisation, management and running of the individual competition, such as scheduling the matches, assigning opponents, booking rooms, requesting student and lecturer judges, and ensuring each round runs smoothly.
Summary of Tasks:
Description: There are 3 Pro Bono reps who manage the Pro Bono activities of the Law Society between themselves. Typically, each Pro Bono rep will take on 1 of the 3 schemes that the Law Society is currently running, which is decided between themselves. Pro Bono is effectively free / volunteer legal work. Students are organised into groups who give presentations in local Schools, the local prison (Hull Prison) and local churches for refugees and asylum seekers.

Description: There are 3 Year Reps, 1st, 2nd and 3rd, you are responsible for circulating news about the Law Society's latest activities, primarily in the form of lecture shoutouts, such as for upcoming socials and events. The year reps are the main cohesion point between the committee and the society members, bridging the gap between them so information can be quickly distributed.

Description: The IT Rep is responsible for the Law Society's online presence, mainly in regards to the website. The tasks revolve around the update and general maintenance of the site, regularly updating the site with up to date news concerning the society such as upcoming socials and competition rounds, the uploading of social photos and society documents for download. Improvements and advancements on the site is a general mandate of the position. Similarly, the newsletter website, in terms of its technical, operational aspects falls under the control of the IT Rep, although the Communications Rep is in charge of its content. Any other IT related task of the society can be routed through the IT Rep.
Summary of Tasks:
Description: The Communications Rep is solely responsible for the Newsletter aspect of the Law Society. The newsletter will be mainly digitised onto a subsidiary site of the main Hull Law Society website, as a portal / micro media site for all things law. Recent events in the news, pivotal cases in the Supreme Court, and relevant / interesting new articles on areas of law, particular areas of law covered at Hull University will be shared through the site. Submission of articles from students, staff and other person will also be published via the website. Also, near the end of the academic year, an annual newsletter will be published, with the best segments from the year, already available via the site in a digital format.
