Hull University Law Society is one of the largest societies in our union. It is open to both law and non-law students and is run by a dedicated committee of sixteen elected student representatives, who are responsible for communicating to you what we do. They are also responsible for organising a massive calendar of social activities (including a pub quiz, an annual ball and a football team), three academic competitions and three pro bono schemes that any law student should be sure to get involved with, whether for the experience, to meet people, or just to boost a CV! I speak for most of the people I know when I say it's well worth getting involved!
The Mooting, Client Interviewing, and Negotiation competitions are designed specifically to enhance the skills needed to successfully pursue a legal career, but they will be useful for any other career path. This year, we are lucky to be sending some great competitors to the national competitions, and we hope that each competition will go from strength to strength- this means getting new, high quality competitors, so please get involved and put in a little effort! I myself have taken part in all three, and have found that the skills I developed whilst competing have definitely improved my legal skills, as well as helping me develop great life skills for after University.
We are also extremely proud of our Pro Bono schemes. Now considered vital to any legal education, ours have created links with local legal aid providers to allow our members to put their legal education into practice, as well as providing useful, free legal advice. The feedback we have had over the previous years has been persistently good, and we hope to develop the schemes even further- bringing ever more relevant topics to local schools, prisons and asylum seekers.
So if you want to get involved in our competitions, pro bono schemes, sports teams, writing for our magazine, or socialise with like minded students then please join.
The Hull Law Society are here to help you with any law related questions you might have, whether they are about graduate jobs, becoming a lawyer, obtaining training contracts or solicitor training. Please feel free to ask us any questions you may have.
