Pro Bono - Schools, Refugee, Law Clinics & Prisons Schemes

What is Pro Bono?

Pro Bono means ‘for free’. A Pro Bono scheme is legal volunteering work within the local community, offering free legal advice to anyone within it. This is a really great opportunity to add to your CV and help the local community at the same time.

Why you should do Pro Bono

Pro Bono is a great way to experience working life in the legal world. Many firms do Pro Bono work and taking part shows employers that you really are interested in the legal world. It isn’t only good for your CV though; helping people in the community is the best part of Pro Bono. You will meet some really interesting people who do need your help and advice.

What we are doing this year

Pro Bono 09/10 will be running:

  • STREETLAW: Delivering presentations to students at local schools about laws, rights and responsibilities that currently affect them.
  • PRISON SCHEME: Delivering presentations to Prisoners at HMP HULL on topics of interest and relevance to them.
  • LAW CLINIC TRAINING WORKSHOPS: Teaching and training about work in law clinics, with pseudo case studies to analyse and solve.
  • PRESENTATION WORKSHOPS AT THE COLLEGE OF LAW, YORK: Building up presentation skills, exploring and increasing presentation styles and techniques.
