Welcome to the Law Society for 2009-2010
As the new president I extend a warm welcome from the committee to all students whether returning for second, third and fourth year or beginning as fresher’s. I hope that you have all had a nice summer despite the rain and are looking forward to the next year which promises to be very busy.
In my first post of the year I just wanted to give a summary of what’s coming up between now and Christmas, and to give out some dates for your diary so that you don’t miss out on any of the activities that might be of interest to you.
The Law society has a wealth of opportunity to offer to each and every student. If you are looking to meet other people off your course then should definitely attend one of our socials, where you can meet students from all three years and watch out for our drop in sessions later in the term.
If you are interested in law-related activities to add to your C.V, then ask about the competition we run. They will each have a demonstration and sign up afternoon during weeks 3 and 4 of this semester.
Our law society also has its own Pro bono scheme which allows people to visit either prison or schools and give presentations to prisoners or students about legal topics. This is always popular with students so if you would like to take part make sure you get to the introduction evening.
For those who are interested in getting involved with the running of law society itself there will be some positions going on committee in the 1st semester, so watch this space for information about the election.
The law society also produces its own newspaper: Obiter Dicta so if you are interested in helping with this please drop me an email.
Finally, we hope you enjoy fresher’s week and we are looking forward to seeing you at the first social.
